UJEP is a modern scientific, pedagogical and cultural educational centre of the Ústí nad Labem Region. We educate more than 8 500 students and employ 900 staff. We proudly claim our place in the city of Ústí nad Labem and make a significant contribution to the development of our region. We have been a university since 1991 and currently have 8 faculties behind our name:

We have adopted the name of a prominent North Bohemian native of Libochovice (1787-1869), who is one of the founders of biology, embryology, histology, modern pharmacology, comparative anatomy, anthropology and is also one of the world’s most important physiologists.

As versatile a personality as Purkyně was in his time, we nowadays offer a wide range of study programmes and disciplines (65 programmes and 192 disciplines) focusing on the most diverse areas of human activity – not least because we are interesting to today’s young people with our diverse offer.
